The students of 5ème and 4ème celebrated carnival last Tuesday, on February 2, 2016 – actually one week before the real Mardi Gras (also known as Fat Tuesday or Shrove Tuesday).
Everybody had lots of fun and it was really cool even though the weather was very hot !
There were a lot of activities.
We started by having a pancake race. This is a British tradition on “Fat Tuesday” or “Shrove Tuesday”. The four 5èmes had a relay race against each other. The runners ran with a frying pan and a pancake in it. Then they had to flip the pancake and pass the pan on to the next runner.
This year class 5A won the pancake race, 5C came in second, 5B third and 5D fourth.
After the race we ate all the pancakes that were left !
Then we got ready for the carnival, put on self-made masks and some girls wore make-up before the presentations started.
First we listened to presentations in Spanish on carnival in different countries. Then we, the 5ème, performed 3 carnival songs from New Orleans. Some even danced ! Finally, the Chinese students sang a typical Chinese New Year song for us.
To finish the day we had a parade, walking around the school making a lot of noise, playing musical instruments and laughing a lot.

The students of 5ème.
